Jasmin Aiche Mahallati
Jasmin Aiche Mahallati (b. 1998) is a Danish visual artist working across painting, ceramics, video, and print. Jasmin holds a BFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and studied at Faculdade de Belas-Artes in Lisbon during her exchange year.
Through different medias, Mahallati explores themes of identity, memory, belonging, and emotional inheritance. Her works balance vulnerability and strength, often with a colorful naive expression.
With a Palestinian background, Mahallati feels a personal responsibility to get to know what it means to live with fear when one’s homeland is under invasion. This motivation led her to travel to Ukraine on several occasions to develop the project Scenes in Life. Together with Pelle Darger Johansen, she creates video portraits of young Ukrainians who shares their dreams and stories about how life is in a warzone.
Rather than approaching the situation from a distance, the project is rooted in listening and presence. It seeks to create space and allows young voices to articulate their own realities, fears, hopes, and sense of identity within an unstable political landscape. In this way, the work extends Mahallatis ongoing investigation of memories and belonging
